オーギュスト・ペレ（ 1874〜1954年）はベルギー、ブリュッセル生まれ、
「コンクリートの父」と呼ばれ、
建材として用いられていなかった鉄筋コンクリートに注目し、
兄弟であるギュスターヴ、クロードとともに
鉄筋コンクリート造という新しい技術により芸術的な表現を追求し、
20世紀フランスで活躍した建築家。


1903年、最初の計画から複数階を持つ建築物、
フランクリン街のアパートメントの実現に成功した。
鉄筋コンクリート造による最初期の近代建築。




代表作であるノートルダム・デュ・ランシー（ランシーの教会堂）は、
ゴシック様式の空間構成と、
近代合理主義的な直線が組み合わされている。


「オーギュスト・ペレによって再建された都市ル・アーヴル」は、北フランスの港湾都市ル・アーヴルの中心街を指す、ユネスコ世界遺産としての登録名。
第二次世界大戦後に行われた大規模な都市再建が、
20世紀における都市計画の優れた例証として評価され、
世界遺産に登録されている。
