谷 新氏

昨日は、月島のタマダプロジェクトの私の個展会場にいたのだが、

谷　新氏が来てくださって、久しぶりに、

長くお話しすることが出来た。

谷 新氏は、美術評論家で、現在、宇都宮美術館館長でおられる。

2000年光州ビエンナーレ・アジア部門コミッショナーをなされた。

著書には『北上する南風ー東南アジアの現代美術』

『回転する表象―現代美術 脱ポストモダンの視角 』などがある。

おつきあいは古くて、１９７２年頃からで、

文章も美術手帖や、みずゑなどで、長文の彦坂尚嘉論を書いていただいている。

国際展では、１９８１年か２年頃の

ヴェベチアビエンナーレのコミッショナーで、

私を出品作家として連れて行ってくれている。

そういう意味で、

私に同伴してくださった代表的な美術評論家であって、

今回も見に来てくださって、

２時間を超えるお話をしてくださった。

実は、谷 新氏は、病気をなさっていて、

心配していたのだが、驚くほどに元気になられていて、

病気のお話もずいぶんとしてくださったのだが、

それも驚く事ばかりの話で、

お元気になられて、本当に良かったと思う。

現代美術の、それも１９７０年代と言う、

私も属している旧派の代表的な評論家でおられて、

そういう古い付き合いは、

最近の私は、あきらめて来てしまっていただけに、

懐かしくて、楽しい時間を過ごすことが出来た。

古い人間関係を大切にするというのは、

基本であると思う。

古い人間関係で、特にお世話になった恩義のある方には、

最近出版した拙著もお送りしている。

私自身は、義理人情を大切にする古い人間である。

しかし最近はそれが難しいのも事実で、

せっかく会合に出かけて行っても、

喧嘩を売られて殴るはめになったり、

嫌な思いをさせられるのが積み重なるから、

避ける様になってしまっていた。

私自身は、たくさん悪口を言われ、

いじめられ、阻害されてきた人間であって、

今も悪評の中を生きていると思っている。

また被害妄想も激しくて、

だから過剰な防衛にも走る。

出る釘は打たれるというが、

私は打たれ続けて来た。

現代美術界という画壇の中での同調性では、

作品も創造性も発揮できないし、

文章も書き得ないのである。

だから溢れて来た。

谷 新氏にも、

私は、日本の現代美術の洗い直しの会を、

提案した。

たとえば、高村光太郎の彫刻は大きな影響を与えたものであるが、

それは近代彫刻として、本当に優れているのかどうか？

実物の作品を前に見ながら、

それを複数の彫刻家や、美術評論家で議論討議をする。

過去には、一度だが、岸田劉生の回顧展会場で、

そういう議論の会をしたことがある。

美術史家の富井玲子さん。

東京画廊社長の山本豊津氏。

美術家の堀浩哉。

それと担当学芸員であった原田光、

そして私であった。

日本の近代／現代の美術の有名な作品の中には、

本当に良い作品なのか、悪い作品なのかが、

疑問であるものが多いのである。

これを洗い直したいである。

谷 新氏も元気になられたので、

また、そういう会を企画して、

ご参加をいただければと思っている。
